INNOVATIONS IN MANAGEMENT EDUCATION
T. V. Rao
Chairman TVRLS & Adjunct Professor, IIMA

Most managers in India do not have good reading habits. A study by the author earleir on 'Rethinking MBA" project at IIMA has reverelad that most managers don't have the habit of reading books, journals and magazines after their MBA and non-MBAs donot have much of a reading habit for professional journals any way. Thus many corproations are being run by managers who donot keep themselves updated. For example most of them donot understand the youth and their aspications and donot knwo how to deal with Gen Y and get the best out of them.

A young team of TVBRLS at Bangalore (www.tvrls.com) who also teach at Management shcools like NMIMS, Christ College, SCMLD, FLAME, ABS etc. are publishing a new Management Magazine called Perfect Professional. Already two issues have come out devoted to the special themes of Entrepreneurship and Leadership. The next issue on Leveraging Gen Y is about to come out and the fourth one is on Execution. The topics of the magazine is all relevant to all managers and the issues have some interesting articles from people from all walks of life.

How L&T, IDPL is using this magazine to get managers to read?

Recently one of the groups of L&T have begun to sue this magazine as a part of their continuing education through OD interventions program. They meet quarterly and each quarter they meet the members are expected to present a quick summary of any one article they read from this magazine or any other book and draw implications for enhancing the effectiveness of the individual, team or the organization.

Balaji Group's Plans:

In a recent visit to Balaji group of Institutions in Pune, The Group's Founder and Director Col. Balasubrmanian has indicated that he would like to subscribe to this magazine for each and every second year student and get them to read and also answer a quiz at the end of the fourth issue on Execution. As a special gesture TVRLS has agreed to send one of their team members at the end of the fourth issue and conduct management Quiz and also give awards to those students who score high indicating their assimilation of Contemporary Management issues and concepts exposed the magazine.

TVRLS Offer to support Management Education

TVRLS has extended their offer of conducting special sessions on the themes of their magazine to all Business schools that subscribe to certain optimal number of their magazines to visit their Institutions or organizations and offer a contest or management quiz or an appropriate intervention to facilitate good reading habits and also keep one self updated with contemporary issues in management and development. As the magazine is meant for general management readers it is en experiment worth undertaking in continuing management education of managers in the making.
